Armor Ambush (Atari 2600)

Armor Ambush was developed by APh Technological Consulting and published by M-Network for the Atari 2600 in 1982.

Game Description

Armor Ambush is the Atari 2600 port of Armor Battle. As soon as the game starts, a screen will show the starting number of tanks for each player.

Armor Ambush is a two player only tank game. Each match spawn two tanks per team in a random terrain. A tank is moved the following way.

Pushing the stick forward will move the tank forward :

  • Pushing the stick to the right will turn it clockwise
  • Pushing the stick to the left will turn it counter clockwise
  • Pressing back will allow the player to switch control to another tank. However, he/she must make sure that the inactive tank is protected, because they can be destroyed, costing one tank.

Some terrain, such as water or dirt, will slow the tank down. Wall around the terrain can be used to protect the tank from shot or to use it to bounce shot.

Shooting with your tank will cause it to recoil (sightly changing its angle). If the left difficult switch is set to A, the shot will bounce as well. If the player isn’t careful, it is possible for the shot to hit his/her own tanks.

Each tank has 2 hit points. A match ends where the two vehicles of one player is destroyed. If the other player didn’t lose any tanks, he/she will be able to use them for later matches. The game end when one of the players runs out of tanks.

Using the North American version of the game, the playthrough shows a complete 2-player game. Some TAS tools were used to make the gameplay footage shorter, but it was not used to give an advantage to any players.
