Mortal Kombat 3 (Sega Genesis) – Shao Khan

The Genesis port of Mortal Kombat 3 was developed by Probe Software and published by Acclaim Entertainment in 1994.

Shao Khan Playthrough

Shao Khan keep his role as the final boss in Mortal Kombat 3, with a few moves from Mortal Kombat II as well as new moves.

Shao Khan is playable with a cheat in the Super NES port, but only in versus mode. The game will prevent the cheat to work if in single player mode (even if you defeat the second player and he/she doesn’t continue). A cheating device is required to force the player to be him. With an Action Replay, the code 7E36D01B will change player 1 to Shao Khan. His portrait on the tower screen is glitched.

Shao Khan is the final boss of the Mortal Kombat 3 sub-series. He was also the final boss of MK2 as well. Along with his strong punch and kick, he can use his hammer and throw a fireball. He also keeps his shoulder charge from MK2 but can also do it diagonally. Finally, he has “special move” dedicated to laugh or insult his opponent.

Shao Khan always appear last in any tower chosen by the player. He is extremely powerful and cheap dues to his high damaging move and priority. He is also able to block after the first hit of a combo if well-timed.

One main difference with a CPU controlled Shao Khan is that his Hammer move doesn’t stun his opponent, but does when controlled by the CPU. It can also repeat the move over and over, while the player can’t do that.

Shao Khan can easily beat the game and gains flawless victory. The main reason is that his jump is high enough to avoid every projectile. All of his move deal huge damage and he can spam them in the corner over and over. In the original Mortal Kombat 3, Shao Khan’s ending will freeze the game into a black screen.
