GAME DESCRIPTION

The Sega Genesis port of Mortal Kombat II was one first port of the game, along with the Super NES version. Unlike the original Mortal Kombat, both ports were uncensored and featured all the violence of the arcade original, including the fatalities.

Like the arcade, the game follows the storyline of the first game where Liu Kang won the tournament. Following that, Shang Tsung successfully convince Shao Khan to give him another chance. Instead of hosting a second tournament in Earthrealm, Shang Tsung would lure the heroes to the Outworld. This time, Shao Khan himself will be part of the tournament as the final opponent, hoping to crush any opposition to his world domination.

After choosing the difficulty level and your character, you will face off against the whole cast. After defeating Shang Tsung, you will fight against Kintaro and then Shao Khan, who is the boss’s character in this port. It is also possible to fight Jade, Noob Saibot and Smoke if you fulfill the requirement before reaching the question mark.

Mortal Kombat II expanded on the original Mortal Kombat. Now featuring 12 playable characters and new secrets character. While not playable, Kano and Sonya appear as prisoners in Khan Arena. Goro has a small appearance in the game’s intro.

New basic move was implemented or tweaked, such as the crouched punch and the roundhouse kick that knock the opponent down. In addition, some character has unique basic move, such as Cage’s kick uppercut or Baraka’s swipe. Every character now has 2 fatalities, 1 babality, 1 friendship and their own input command to perform two of the stages fatality. Some character has a secret fatality as well.

The Sega Genesis port of Mortal Kombat II follow the arcade port quite well. All the finishing moves and special move were replicated on this port. Most of the soundtrack are present in this port, but only a few plays in their right stages and they are all remixed to a certain extent. For instance, the character selection’s screen theme is a remix of the Kombat Tomb stage soundtrack and the stage itself now has the soundtrack that the Portal and Shao Khan’s Arena had in the original arcade game.

The port removed the ability to perform crouched punch with the low punch button. Instead, it will perform an uppercut just like doing a crouching high punch. Goro’s Lair is replaced by a blue shaded version of the Portal Stage when fighting the secret characters. The port also includes exclusive cheats and the option to maps the control to a 3 buttons controller or a 6 buttons controller.
