Street Fighter Alpha 3 (Playstation) – X-ISM Sagat

Street Fighter Alpha 3 was developed and released by Capcom for the Sony Playstation in 1999.

Sagat [X-ISM] Playthrough

Sagat is known as the Emperor of Muay Thai and a national hero of Thailand. However, everything changed when Ryu defeated him in the first Street Fighter, causing a scar on his chest. Since this event, Sagat is mostly blinded by his rage and hatred which amplified after his former student Adon mocked him and won against him in a fight during the first Street Fighter Alpha.

It was also during that time that he comes in contact with M. Bison and join his shadoolo organization, gaining a reputation as a powerful and unforgiving fighter. M. Bison also offered Sagat to use the Shadoloo resource and to find out Ryu for him in order to have a clean rematch.
In Street Fighter Alpha 3, Sagat still works for the Shadoloo and he is the personal bodyguard of M. Bison. He still has his hatred and blinding rage dues to his loss that destroyed his former glory. He encounters Dan, who seeks revenge on him dues to Sagat killing his father during a fight in the past. However, Sagat realizes that Dan has the same hatred and blinding rage he has, which somehow freeze his mind. Not knowing how to cope with this, he purposely loses the fight to get away with this mindset. Later, M. Bison manage to find Ryu and kidnap him. He then keeps his promise and give an opportunity for Sagat to fight him again. However, Sagat sees that Ryu is in fact corrupted by the psycho power and the true intent of M. Bison was actually to have a spare, powerful body in the event he loses his. Sagat is outraged by this and actually fight Ryu to push him away from M. Bison. Right after, the Muay Thai master confronts his own boss. In the end of the adventure, Sagat learned the limits of rivalry and accept his painful loss in the first Street Fighter tournament. Since he is still part of Shadoloo in Street Fighter II, which takes chronologically after the alpha series, it is implied that he never confronted M. Bison.

As an additional note: the Alpha series doesn’t explain much about what happened and caused the death of Go, Dan’s Hibiki’s father in the hand of Sagat. However, he is responsible to have taken one of Sagat’s eyes during the fight that caused him to perish, forcing Sagat to wear an eye patch.

He has his Tiger Shot that he can throw while standing still or while crouched. His Tiger Knee is now known as the Tiger Crush, but his functionally the same move, involving Sagat to lunge toward his opponent with a flying knee that can hit once or twice. His famed Tiger Uppercut move is now two distinct moves. The first variant keeps the original name, doing a damaging Tiger Uppercut that can hit once or twice. The second variation is the Tiger Blow, which hit the opponent multiple time (up to seven), exactly like his Fierce Tiger Uppercut from Super Street fighter II Turbo. Finally, he has a unique passive move known as the Angry Charge that causes his scar to glow and his next move to deal more damage. Sagat has three Super Combo, each based on one of his special moves. He keeps his Tiger Genocide technique from Street Fighter II, which is a multi-hit combo involving knees and uppercut. He also has the Tiger Cannon, which is his projectile super combo. Finally, he gains the Tiger Raid, which is a powerful, multi-hitting kick move that causes his opponent to catch in fire.

The X-ISM mode is based on many mechanics of Super Street Fighter II Turbo. Every character has the following mechanics.

  • Longer Guard Power Gauge
  • All basic moves and special moves do more damage. Characters using X-ISM will take more damage as well
  • Super Combos does not do more damage
  • No air blocks
  • No ground recovery roll
  • No Alpha Counters
  • No Taunting (This does not apply to Dan)
  • One Super Combo per character. Performing it deplete the super combo bar complety

In X-ISM mode, Sagat has the Tiger Uppercut, both Tiger Shot variant and the Tiger Knee. His super combo is the Tiger Genocide.
