The Sega CD port of Mortal Kombat was developed by Probe Software and published by Arena Entertainment (in North America and Europe) and by Acclaim Japan for the Japanese market in 1994. The original arcade game was developed by Midway and released in 1992.
Sub-Zero playthrough
Sub-Zero is the second ninja character in the game. Unlike Scorpion, he is part of the Lin Kuei, which is said to be a legendary clan of Chinese ninja. His clan opposes Scorpion’s, but it is not clear what led to this feud. One thing for sure, Sub-Zero entered the tournament with the aim to assassinate Shang Tsung, awarding him a large sum of money if he succeeds.
Sub-Zero has two special moves. He is able to use his ice elemental ability to shoot a blast of ice. Although not damaging, the opponent is frozen for a few seconds, giving Sub-Zero the time to perform another move. His second move is his slide, which consists of quickly rush toward his opponent for a sweep. Although it deals minimal damage, it is an excellent counter or combo under.
Sub-Zero’s fatality is the same as the arcade original, since the Sega-CD port of Mortal Kombat isn’t censored by default. However, if blood is turned off, his fatality will be done the same way as Genesis version with the blood code off. His censored fatality is a very strong uppercut that send the opponent high in the air.
Sub-Zero need timing in order to beat the CPU. His freeze projectile doesn’t always get the CPU, and he must rely on his jumping kicks and roundhouse. His slide is the best combo ender, adding a few more damage in the combo.
