Ryoko playthrough
Ryoko Kano is the third playable character. A Judo prodigy from Japan, she is considered a master in her martial arts despite being only 16 years old. During the time of the tournament, her grandfather was missing. She was then forced to carry his wishes in case he would never return and enter the tournament to prove the power of her family.
Despite her appearance, Ryoko is a close quarter character and a grappler. She is a hybrid character with three motions moves and 1 charge move. Most of her special move involves grabbing the opponent. Her Cho Yama Arashi technique will behave differently depending of where she is. If done close, she will go high in the air with her opponent and slam him down. If done away from her opponent, she will dash toward him and perform a lighter throw. She can also perform 2 air throws, with one being a special technique that deal a lot of damage. All these grab moves can’t be blocked and will work as soon as the motion is done near her opponent. Finally, her Zenten Ukemi cause her to roll toward the opponent, hitting each time she comes in contact with him. It is an excellent move that chips away opponent who blocks.
Ryoko is extremely powerful against the CPU, to the point that she can be considered broken. All her command grab can be executed with no delay and she can grab the opponent in the middle of their move, as long as they are on the ground. She has that same kind of priority in the air for her two-air throw. Her rolling technique can be used to get close to the opponent or to stun lock him to chip its health until he is defeated. Outside of this, she can perform a few combos with her basic move, her fierce and strong kick being the most useful.
As a side note, Ryoko Kano’s design was based on Ryoko Tani, and (at the time of the game release) Japanese female judoka champion, having won many world titles and Olympic medals until her retirement in 2010.
