Sheeva playthrough
In the Super NES and Sega Genesis Port of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Sheeva was removed in order to fit the extra content that Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 had (new character and stage). However, some code and assets (mostly related to animation required by fatality) were still remaining in the code. When forced in game, she would appear invisible and extremely prone to game crashing.
In December 2020, a hack known as Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 Project aims to reintroduce all the missing content of MK3. It also changes a few voice samples to match the arcade original. Motaro is fought at the Balcony stage and the music that play during Shao Khan’s fight is the same as the arcade. However, the MK3 background for the Choose your Destiny screen and the Game Over screens are used instead of UMK3. Along with the majority of the stages, Sheeva was brought back as a secret character. She doesn’t have her own portrait, borrowing the one that represent an Endurance match.
She is mostly the same as her MK3 counterpart, but there are a few flaws in this hack. Her throw doesn’t cause her opponent to bounce as high as it was in MK3. Her second fatality’s input doesn’t work and the animation when she gets thrown by a UMK3 character is odd. Her name is not shown when she wins a match. Finally, her ending is actually Kano’s ending with a few sentences’ cuts at the beginning instead of her own. However, she gained a Brutality with an input unique to this hack (since Brutality were not present in the arcade version of UMK3).
In terms of raw strength and damage, Sheeva is the most powerful regular character. Her Fireball does more damage than a regular projectile. She also has two stomp special moves. The first one is consisting of going out of the screen and stomping the opponent below. The second one makes Sheeva stomps the ground, doing damage in the same way as Jax’s ground pound. The drawback of these powerful moves is that they are all slower to perform, but the regular stomp cannot be blocked. She has 2 powerful combos, one causing the opponent to be launched and another that deal over 40% of damage on the opponent health bar.
Against the CPU, Sheeva can destroy her opponent with her long combo that is started from a high punch or high kick. This can deal as much as 55% of damage, defeating an opponent in less than 10 seconds if used twice. Her projectile also works well after mashing the low punch or high punch or when far away from the opponent, as soon as he gets up from a knockdown. However, both stomps move, especially the later one, are not used as often because the CPU seems to know how to easily avoid it. Because of her height, her high kick and roundhouse kick make excellent anti-air.
