Mortal Kombat II (Playstation) – Jade

Jade playthrough

In Mortal Kombat II, Jade is one of the three unplayable secret characters. She doesn’t have any storyline and can be only fought under specific conditions. Unlike her two other counterparts, there is no clue about its existence in the game, though she is easily available when accessing the secret cheat option of the game. Because of ther, she is the most obscure of the three characters.

To fight Jade, the player must defeat the character that is below the question mark symbol of the battle plan. She will challenge the player if the player win using only low kick (blocking is also allowed).

Jade is a palette swap of Kitana. She has a green outfit and she is dark-skinned. However, in the Sega Saturn and Playstation version of Mortal Kombat II, she is white. She has more health than the regular character and walk faster. Her only special move is Kitana’s fan throw. The CPU will never perform the airborne version of the move. Jade’s passive ability is her immunity to projectile. Any projectile sent at her will pass right through her.

There is no way to play as Jade in Mortal Kombat II without external tools. However, it is possible to edit the following address in a hex editor to play as him.

800C9D1C:0010 for player 1
It is currently unknown what is the address for the second player.

The character ID must be Jade after choosing a character. Failing to do so will reset the game when it attempts to display Jade. In the video, a Lua script was used to change the ID to Jade after choosing Liu Kang and freezing the value for the remainder of the game.

Pressing Low Kick and not holding it for the remainder of the match or pressing back + high punch will freeze the game, a trait she shares with the two other secret character. The Fan Throw cannot be done by the player, only the CPU can. Her close high punch move does not have delay. Because of that, it is possible to hit the opponent with the move over and over to easily win a match.

Jade doesn’t have any finishing move and can’t perform the universal Dead Pool fatality because she is treated as a boss character, which means that the Finish Him/her prompt will never appear.

Jade is the easiest character to use against the CPU. The CPU doesn’t take account of Jade’s immunity to projectile and will use them as if she was a regular character. With her speed, she can easily attack the opponent before he recovers from his projectile. She can also use her high punch over and over to defeat him.

Since the Low Kick button freeze and must be hold once pressed, it is not possible for Jade to fight against herself.

Every match will be set in Goro’s Lair, including the fight against Kintaro and Shao Khan. Defeating Shao Khan, the defeat sequence in Goro’s Lair, which glitch the background, but the game will be able to progress to the ending sequence.

As a side note, Jade’s ending shows the second part of Kitana’s ending as the first screen, causing graphical glitches. The game will freeze as soon as the game attempt to load the second part of the ending, preventing the credit rolls to happen.
